5 Important Microsoft Dynamics 365 Deprecations You Should Know About

Microsoft Docs Contributors have recently updated an ongoing announcements and deprecations list that applies to Power Apps, Power Automate, and customer engagement apps (D365 Sales, D365 Marketing, D365 Field Service, and D365 Project Service Automation).

These deprecations are important for admins to be aware of. Use this information to prepare for upcoming release waves. As a reminder, when a feature is deprecated, this means that Microsoft intends to remove the feature or capability from a future major release. (Always refer to your release notes for important deprecation notices, plans, change history, early access features, and more.)

A deprecated “feature or capability will continue to work and is fully supported until it is officially removed.”

Deprecation notices may extend over months or years. This is why staying up to date on deprecations is so important as it will help admins prepare and update their systems until the feature is officially removed.

Here are some important deprecations that caught our eye on the list…

Microsoft Dynamics 365 App for Windows

Effective: April 2021

What does this mean? This app lets users and admins run customer engagement apps (like D365 Sales, Customer Service, and Marketing). While Microsoft will keep providing security and other critical updates for this app until Jan. 29, 2021, it will not release other features or functionality for it. As of April 1, 2021, the app will be officially removed from the app store.

Microsoft Docs Contributors recommend that users and admins use their web browsers to run their customer engagement apps on Windows “to take advantage of the ongoing improvements for the web app.”

Internet Explorer 11 Support for Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Power Platform

Effective: December 2020

What does this mean? Internet Explorer 11 will not be supported after August 2021, while support for Internet Explorer 11 was officially deprecated as of December 2020. This deprecation affects Dynamics 365 and Power Platform organizations whose products were designed with an Internet Explorer 11 interface.

Microsoft Docs Contributors recommend these types of organizations transition to Microsoft Edge.

5 Important Microsoft Dynamics 365 Deprecations You Should Know About

Dynamics 365 Home

Effective: March 2020

What does this mean? The home page for Dynamics 365 applications will not be available after April 1, 2021. The Microsoft Apps page will replace it, providing users with “a single page for productivity and business applications.” Users who navigate to the original home page after April 1, 2021, will see a notification about the new page and be encouraged to set up a new bookmark.

Organization Data Download Filters for Mobile Offline

Effective: February 2021

What does this mean? This filter option let admins filter data when they set up mobile offline.

Microsoft Docs Contributors recommend admins to start preparing for this deprecation now and “move relevant data filters from Organization data download filter to the offline profile option.” This lets admins decide what data is available when users work in offline mode.

Regional Discovery Service

Effective: March 2020

What does this mean? Microsoft will continue to provide support for this feature until March 1, 2021. After this date, the Regional Discovery Service will not be available, and customers must transition to the global OData V4 Discover Service.

Of course, we do not recommend waiting until March 1, 2021, to make the transition. With any transition, it is better to start the process early to give yourselves an adequate amount of time to transition and adapt and to get the help and support you need from your consulting partner.
