When it comes to SEO, the value is undeniable, which is why we’ve compiled our list of the five top tips to excel at SEO.
An effective SEO strategy will send high-quality traffic to your website and help you find high-quality leads that convert to customers more swiftly. When you know how to leverage SEO strategies to drive success as a marketer, you do your organization a lot of favors.
Here are our five top tips to excel at SEO:
1. Know your audience and the language they use
In your content copy, use words and phrases that your target audience frequently uses, whatever the medium. Integrate their language as much as possible.
Remember, your audience is the one entering the question into the search engine they’re looking for you on, so you have to put yourself in their shoes and ask, “How would I search for a solution to this problem?”
Don’t be afraid to ask your colleagues for opinions or ideas to get started! Step into the mind of your buyers, and get outside your own marketing brain. Think about how you’d shop for a product or service yourself, and build from there.
2. Write quality content
Writing better content will help keep your visitors on your pages longer, and search engines like Google will recognize quality writing with the evolution of their search algorithm over the years. SEO isn’t as simple as it used to be at the birth of the digital revolution … AI has become more advanced and capable over time (and will continue to).
Pay attention to your content. Keep your paragraphs short, simple, and to the point. Be memorable!
Break up your content with subheaders and bullets to ease the flow of your web pages, and make your copy more absorbable.
Think about how different people respond to different mediums and styles.
3. Include title tags
Write your title tags to indicate exactly what is on the page.
Use keywords early in your title, and keep them between 8 and 55 characters, including spaces.
4. Use a responsive web design
Don’t undermine the importance of responsive website design … according to eMarketer, tablets and smartphones drive 39% of paid search clicks in North America, so if your website isn’t optimized for these devices, you will miss out on key traffic.
It’s imperative that your website displays well across different devices so you have no trouble retaining an audience.
5. Set a canonical URL
This helps to reduce the number of issues you have with any duplicate content.
A canonical URL is usually administered by your webmaster. It helps direct users to “preferred” content if you have duplicated content over time. This tends to happen if a website exists over a long period.
So, if more than two pages that are very close in content qualify for a high SEO ranking, the search engine will pull your “preferred” content based on the canonical URL you implement.
