Salesforce Trailhead

Are you ready, trailblazers? Today, we’re going to cover Unit 4 of the module, Salesforce Platform Basics.

If you’ve been paying attention to the blog these past few weeks, you’ll be caught up to this unit; but, if not (and no worries), I do encourage you to revisit this thread so you can understand what got us here with the platform.

With that in mind, today we’re going to jump into “Navigate Setup”.

In this unit, we learn how to …

  • Locate Setup and identify its key elements
  • Identify important menus for customizing your org
  • Use Quick Find to access menu items

Ready? Let’s dive in …

Trailhead reminds us that, as Salesforce Admins, we’ll be spending a lot of time with Setup, since it’s a one-stop-shop for customizing, configuring, and supporting your Org.

There’s SO much you can do!

Trailhead prompts us to navigate to our Trailhead Playground and click on Setup from the gear menu at the top of our screens.

Here’s a reminder on some key terminology involved with Setup:

  • Object Manager: where you can view and customize standard and custom objects in your Org.
  • Setup Menu: gives you quick links to a collection of pages that let you do everything from managing your users to modify security settings.
  • Main Window: shows you the Setup home page, but is also where you can see whatever you’re trying to work on.

Trailhead reminds us that, while efficient, the Setup Menu is also the toughest to navigate since there are so many pages you can access from it.

If you know where to look, you can just expand the menu you want, but, if you’re unsure, you can use the Quick Find box to search for what you’re looking for.

Rest assured, Trailhead teaches us how to “get cozy” with the Setup Menu. Don’t fear its expansive capabilities – embrace them!

There are three main categories you’ll become familiar with as you complete this unit:

  • Administration
  • Platform Tools
  • and Settings

(I won’t spoil the details for you, as I want you to complete the unit yourself.)

Trailhead also gives us some other important pages to be aware of as we move forward as Beginner Admins:

  • Company Information
  • Users
  • Profiles
  • View Setup Audit Trail
  • and Login History

This is a quick 10-minute unit that gives us great insight into what’s to come! Get to know the Setup Menu and discover details behind the aforementioned key terminology when you log in.
