At this level of digital marketing maturity, marketing organizations focus their digital efforts primarily on email with a strategy that is usually facilitated by an email service provider that is relatively simple and has limited extensions and functionality.

Email blasters still do a lot of manual labor and aren’t taking advantage of automation.

They score leads and manage data manually; there’s a lot of heavy lifting involved at this stage.

The CRM (Customer Relationship Management) operations are typically lacking at this level if even existent at all.

Without those in place, marketers at this phase will feel challenged to measure results effectively. This prevents them from accurately setting goals and measuring KPIs.

To determine if you are an email blaster (or email marketer), you should ask yourself these questions:

  1. Are you doing too much manual work of scoring and data management?
  2. Do you lack the integration that supports a data flow between your digital marketing and CRM tools?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, you fall into the first category, but fear not – there’s hope for growth!
