Important Dates for the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Wave 2 Release

Important Dates for the 2020 Microsoft Dynamics 365 Wave 2 Release

The way we run business is constantly changing.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 is evolving with today’s marketplace in new and exciting ways to help you do the same and move forward through times of great change.

The upcoming 2020 Microsoft Dynamics 365 Release Wave 2 follows suit. The second release starts this October, but there are some important dates to keep in mind before its general availability.

Microsoft has recently published this important timeline:

  • July 8, 2020: “Release plans available: Learn about new upcoming capabilities for Dynamics 365 and Power Platform.”
    • View the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Release Wave 2 plans here.
    • View the Power Platform Release Wave 2 plans here.
  • August 3, 2020: “Early access available: Try the new features and capabilities that will be a part of the October update of the 2020 release wave 2 before they are enabled automatically.”
  • Oct. 1, 2020: “General availability: This is when production deployment for the 2020 release wave 2 begins. Regional deployments will commence Oct. 2, 2020.”
  • Since March 2020, the legacy Dynamics 365 Outlook client is deprecated. Customers must transition to the modern Dynamics 365 App for Outlook before Oct. 1, 2020.
  • Similarly, the home page for Dynamics 365 applications is deprecated as of March 2020 and will not be available after Oct. 1, 2020. The Microsoft 365 apps page will replace it. This will affect you if you use multiple apps and bookmarked the homepage. After Oct. 1, users will be automatically redirected to the modern version.

The current release wave 1 updates were pushed back due to COVID-19’s impact on the world.

Many businesses have had to adjust and cut back in today’s pandemic world. Microsoft has acknowledged and responded to these circumstances with empathy, offering key resources.

As of July 2020, Microsoft says “70% of the hundreds of features in the wave 1 release have shipped.” The remaining features will be shipped by September 2020.

Microsoft has come up with an array of release wave videos to keep customers, partners, and admins updated. You can view these assets here.
